Day 9

Which way to go? Oh which way to go? Well I had never been to Black Rock Canyon, so Black Rock Canyon it was.

The road was a little narrow at first. But nothing to major.

Then we reached this little spot in the trail. This picture really doesn't do it justice. It was fairly steep and technical. At the top it had less lava rock and more pumice type hard pack. I decided not to try it when back there by ourselves. So we got out and walked up it. It is definitely passable, but a spotter would probably be best. Once over this spot it looked smooth again. But you just never know.

The two little Goofballs.

After hiking around Black Rock for a little bit, we decided to head back and do the Scenic Canyon. The road to this side was not bad at all. Stopped and had PBJ's and the kids explored some more where Tanner laid claim to his "Evil Mystical Cave".

Hiking up to the top.

This was almost straight up. And really loose gravel. It was a motorcycle trail that we were climbing and these pictures really don't do it justice. I am still amazed and what people are able to climb on motorcycles. I have ridden a lot of places, but don't think I would have the nerve to climb this kind of trail.

I'm not sure the exact elevation, but if you have ever been on the Jawbone Canyon paved road heading to Skyline Ranch, this is the top of the mountains to the south that loom above the road at steep angles.

This photo gives a little better perspective of the height we were at. The dirt road that you can see is about 300 feet below us. The Jawbone Canyon paved road is the tiny faint black line way off in the distance where you see the hills converging with the dotted brush.

One of the Aqueduct bridges. And what appeared to be an old mine site.

Some of the sights while at the top of the mountain. The gate that use to block to road.

The California Aqueduct Pipe.

A very cool looking desert sunset to end off a great day of exploring.
